Introduction
Why the heck is Holly writing another blog?
As I was scrolling through my
social media one day I came across a post that said, “It’s not a race, it’s a
journey, so enjoy the ride.” Okay, so I’m paraphrasing, but the message stuck with
me. Today in 2017, it’s so easy to get caught up in comparing your own life
with that of others. With Facebook, you can stay caught up in your friends’
lives, jobs, relationships, and social lives. On Instagram, you can see
fabulous selfies and delicious new food trends. On Twitter, you can see others’
anecdotes and interesting happenstances from their daily lives. You see all of
this on a 4x2’’ screen as you’re sitting on your living room couch downing an
extra-large bag of pretzels. Sorry did I
write you? I meant to write I.
That bottom picture is an actual pizza that I ate last Wednesday on Pizza Night at EFY.
But really, this is something
that happens in my everyday life. I realize what the dangers of social media
are and I know that the filters that I am seeing others’ lives through are
sifting out their personal trials. Despite my knowledge of this, it doesn’t
take away from my own personal feelings of self-doubt and anxiety. There’s no
denying that social media is both a blessing and a curse, and I am seeking to
change the paradigms associated with it. Instead of posting everything that
goes right in my life, I want to write about what’s real. When people look at
my social media posts, I don’t want them to feel FOMO or that they have a
less-than-ideal life. I want people to see my real self. Most specifically, I
want to show the people in my feeds that the pitfalls of life lead us to true
happiness and success.
